Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when de we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothing and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ - Matthew 25:-37-40
Our world does not lack for hurting people in need. Recently, news headlines recounted the horrors of the deadly Ebola virus outbreak in several countries, none more greatly impacted that the western African nation of Liberia. Fortunately, that nation has now been declared Ebola-free, but need remains.
That’s why on Sunday, August 9, 2015, First Church of Crystal Lake will host our fourth annual meal-pack to support the children and families of Liberia. As is often the case with crises situations, the children of Liberia were disproportionately impacted by the Ebola virus and it’s after effects. This is our opportunity to pack 100,000 meals to ship to that country, and alleviate some of the burden of hunger as these same children struggle to recover and cope. We’ll again be partnering with our friends from Kids Around The World to make this happen ( http://www.kidsaroundtheworld.com/). The event will take place in the McHenry County College cafeteria starting at 9:30 a.m. on the 9th.
We’ll be working locally, too, on Saturday, August 8 to help seniors and families in need right here in McHenry County. It’s a great way to impact the lives of our closest neighbors, all with just a few hours of yardwork, landscaping and other projects than lend a helping hand. You’ll be working with a team of folks – just meet us at First Church at 8:30 a.m. on August 8th, and bring some work gloves, sunscreen and a servant’s heart.
